It goes without saying that consuming too many carbonated drinks may have severe effects on the human body – short term and long term.

Some common effects of consuming carbonated drinks include;

  • Teeth damage

  • Stomach bloating

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Increased risk of cancer

  • Liver damage

Recent studies have shown that drinking as little as one can of carbonated drink every day can increase the risk of a heart attack or a fatal heart disease by over 30%.

A less toxic alternative?

The diet-soda or zero sugar alternatives which are the seemingly ‘safer’ alternatives are not the safest either as these drinks are made from artificial sweeteners which are just as sweet as the sugars found in regular carbonated drinks.

These artificial sweeteners cause insulin to be released in the gut. Having high levels of insulin in the body can be linked to Obesity & Heart Disease.

A truly safer alternative

Fruit-infused water

Fruit-infused water gives you the best of both worlds – a flavorful drink  + extra vitamins and minerals released in the water from the fruits. Think strawberries, cucumbers, lemons, peaches and so much more.

Green tea, lemon teas, chamomile, ginger, blueberries – with a wide range of flavored teas available, you are sure to satisfy your tastebuds with a healthy flavored tea; and can be iced if you need something refreshing.

Flavored Sparkling Water

Be careful with this one, you need to read the labels, the only ingredients in your flavored water should be water and flavoring, avoid any that comes with artificial sweeteners.

The best option

Sometimes all the body need is water.  Sodas and Sugary drinks do not rehydrate as well as good water.

Reducing the rate at which you consume carbonated drinks can go a long way in ensuring you live a healthier life.
