I bet you didn’t know that when you get that weekend hangover, your skin kinda does as well.
It’s more than the usual headache, puffy eyes and burger cravings you get in the morning. We’re pretty sure you notice some weird new pimple and generally very dull skin and we’re here to tell you why.
There are many reasons your skin turns on you when you have one too many of your favorite cocktails. Here’s two;
- DRINKING CAUSES DEHYDRATION- Cocktails are diuretic. Diuretics are substances that increase the production of urine from the body which causes dehydration. Dehydration makes the skin drier, increases fine lines and makes the skin less plump.
- ALCOHOL AGGRAVATES INFLAMMATION- Alcohol affects the hormones in your skin which can worsen inflammatory skin conditions, like acne and rosacea (redness).
We’re pretty sure you don’t want that.
You should avoid wines, cocktails, and chasers that are too sugary because excess sugar increases the chances of inflammation and acne breakouts.
If you must indulge, try choosing red wine which contains antioxidants like polyphenols and resveratrol, which have beneficial effects in the body and skin when enjoyed in moderation of course!
If you have the fear of missing out, (FOMO), clear liquors like vodka and tequila have the least amount of sugar and the fewest added ingredients.
Cheers to better skin and a fun night out!
Yes you can have both!
